| | | | FAM Search functions - help | | | | The FAM website contains two different search modes: Search assistant and direct search. The search assistant supports you in expressing queries in the different language modes. The direct search permits a full text search of the website and a search in all references and products. Via reference search and product search a list of technical details and figures about existing entries is displayed.
Search assistant
The FAM search assistant is a tool to simplify the search on the website.
You’ll see a multilingual term list. The language of the first column indicates the active language of the website.
For purposes of clarity the entries of the list are not presented all at once. By a click on the navigation elements at the superior section of the page you can filter the terms which belong to special categories or every term with a special initial letter. Essential for that is the active navigation language because the entries are always sorted according to the content of the first column. A special search for special entries is possible via input field. For that, enter a term in the input field and push the button.
Below every term you’ll see three icons which permit a quick search into the plant and system datasets of the website and a full text search of the static pages. By a click on the according icon a query with the chosen term is activated. If you want the search assistent to be opened in the background, push the Shift-button while clicking the icon. The search is opened in a new window.
To pre-estimate the search results and to find out if the search for a term leads to a desired result, the number of hits is logged in the system. If you stay with the mouse pointer on the according icon, an info box shows you the number of hits to expect.

Direct searches
The FAM search assistant enters the corresponding search by click on one of the icons (Search in References, Search in products, Full text search). Thereby, the selected search term is transferred to the specific search.
Additionally you can use the three different search types, without using the search assistant, by the direct entry of a term in references, products and full text search.
The direct entry could be more specified by the combination of different search terms. The following Boolean operators permit a more specific query:
Combining search terms using „AND“
All search terms entered are automatically combined with „AND“, that means that hits will include all your search terms. You don't need to insert „AND“ between search terms, just separate search terms by a space.
Example: Processing plant Germany
The system will display all data records con
taining both the term „Processing plant“ and the term „Germany“.
Combining search terms using „OR“
If you want to search individual search terms using the operator „OR“, you need to insert the word „OR“ between these terms.
Example: Processing plant OR Germany
The system will display all data records con
taining either the term „Processing plant“ or the term „Germany“ or both.
You can also perform a search combining the operator „OR“ with „AND“. In such a case you need to put the terms to be combined using „OR“ in parenthesis.
Example: Processing plant (Russia OR Germany)
The system will display all data records con
taining the term „Processing plant“ and either the term „Russia“ or the term „Germany“ or both.
Eliminating search terms using „NOT“
In order to limit the number of hits you can also eliminate terms by putting „NOT“ in front of the term to be eliminated. The system will only display hits that do not contain this term.
Example: Processing plant NOT Germany
The system will display all data records con
taining the term „Processing plant“ but not the term „Germany“.
It is, of course, also possible to use the ope
rator „NOT“ in combined search operations together with „AND“- and „OR“-searches.
Example: Processing plant (Russia OR Germany) NOT Mineral grinding plant
The system will display all data records con
taining the term „Processing plant“ and either the term „Russia“ or the term „Germany“ or both, but the term „Mineral grinding plant“ must not occur in the data records found.
